Scenario Analysis

Explore, discover, anticipate & create the future

Core

The Scenario Analysis programme introduces participants in the practice and principles of scenario thinking and in selecting relevant and challenging future scenarios for exploring the future and developing strategies and policies.

Analysing the future

Long-term success depends both on seizing opportunities as they arise and dealing effectively with adverse circumstances. Anticipating possible futures is essential as innovation and developing strategic competences takes time. The purpose of scenario analysis is to better understand and foresee the strategic implications of possible changes. Scenarios explore and analyse alternative routes to the future from different perspectives. It provides valuable, new insights to strengthen policies, strategies, business models and innovations. Moreover, the scenarios form a good basis for a strategic dialogue about the future with others inside and outside the organisation.

Programme

The programme combines in-depth insight into the principles, process and working of scenario analysis with practical exercises. Participants go through the entire scenario process, from identifying future forces to selecting and using future scenarios for strategy development and business innovation. With the acquired insights, participants can apply scenario analysis to the strategic challenges and future of their own organisation. Also, after the programme, the lecturer is available for questions and support.

Insights

  • Being able to design and apply scenario analysis to explore and design the future of their own organisation.

  • Ability to select relevant future scenarios in different ways, think them through and analyse them to determine strategic implications, opportunities and risks to better substantiate strategic choices, innovation programmes and investment proposals.

  • A flying start in using scenario analysis for strategic challenges your organisation faces.

  • One-year subscription to the weekly newsletter onFutureScenarios that explores, maps and monitors the future of a range of industries to detect disruptive and structural changes to identify attractive business opportunities as well as strategic risks.

Participants

Participants are entrepreneurs, board members or managers responsible for strategy, marketing, business development or risk management and want to be well prepared for external changes that may occur suddenly or over a longer period of time. It does not matter whether it is a listed company, SME, (semi-)government institution or non-profit organisation. Participants want to lead the organisation into the future together with their employees, are faced with important strategic choices, have to evaluate investment proposals surrounded by strategic uncertainties and risks or select the innovation programmes with the best prospects. Scenario analysis enables them to tackle these strategic challenges in a structured way.

Lecturer

The programme is led by dr. Robert Bood, who learned the craft of scenario analysis and strategy development from pioneers in the field. In the past 25 years, he has applied it in hundreds of projects, programmes and workshops with companies, governments, non-profit organisations and NGOs in more than 45 countries across the world. He is a consultant at FairSights, affiliated with both TIAS School for Business and Society at Tilburg University, the Netherlands and the Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has extensive knowledge of the literature on scenario analysis, strategy, innovation, new business development and risk management and regularly publishes nationally and internationally on strategy and scenario development.
